Manic Street Preachers

Situationist Welsh glam punk hard rock band which formed in the late 80s and released their first album in 1992. They lost a member when Richey Edwards disappeared in 1995 but continued releasing music without him. Their seventh album came out in 2004.

"Not for all tastes, certainly, or at least their early stuff isn't, but I think they rock. I listen to their angry songs to vent my rage and their sleepy songs when I need to rest. :)"

"No one can deny the power of a classic Oasis power ballad, right? er ... I suppose they probably can. I love them, though, because they rock and I enjoy that. One time they actually saved my sanity, but that's long story."

Radiohead

Radiohead

Oxford-based quintet that released their first album in 1993 and rose to fame on the success of the single "Creep." They seemed destined to be a one hit wonder, but in 1997, they released OK Computer, which is considered by many to be one of the greatest albums of all time. They are now thought of as one of the most innovative current rock bands.

"They are the best band that isn't U2. They might really be better than U2 musically, I suppose ... though ... better than U2? But anyway, they are fantastic and original and their music is often so beautiful that it's actually hard to believe. Also, I have to agree with Loren about how many bands that have followed them come off as being not much more than imitators."

Verve, The

Verve, The

They released their first album in 1993, split up shortly after releasing their second album in 1995, re-formed to release their third album in 1997 and became rather well-known for a while through the single "Bitter Sweet Symphony," then officially split up again in 1999. In 2004 they released a greatest hits compilation but they show no signs of getting back together again.

"I think most people only know one or two of their songs, which is a shame, really, because to my mind they were one of the best British bands of the 90s. Their early music is quite spacey and weird, but their later stuff is very melodic and beautiful. Buy their greatest hits! You know you want to."
